About the Shootout
Every August, the Lake of the Ozarks becomes the fastest stretch of water in the country. Three days of high-performance racing where speeds top 200 mph and crowds line the shoreline three deep.
Now in its fourth decade, the event draws competitors and spectators from across the country. Beyond the race itself, the week fills up fast: poker runs, a street party on the Bagnell Dam Strip, a floatilla tie-up, and a golf tournament round out the calendar. All of it raises money for local nonprofits and first responders.
Race headquarters is at Dog Days Bar & Grill. Main race days run Friday through Sunday, with qualifying and exhibition runs earlier in the week. Book your stay early — the lake fills up months in advance.
